Spotlight on Astier de Villatte
March 21, 2017
We just finished unpacking the last box of our newest Astier de Villatte shipment, and for a brief moment, we were transported to the streets of Paris and into the world of its famed history.
Inspired by 18th and 19th century designs, Astier de Villatte’s skilled ceramicists make these signature pieces entirely by hand in Paris, France, using a technique passed down through a family of generations. Comprised of black terracotta clay and glazed in a milky white finish, the ceramics are extremely durable yet surprisingly light to the touch, making them perfect for everyday use. Imperfections are embraced and no two pieces are exactly alike.
Even more interesting, Astier de Villatte’s antique Bastille workshop on Rue Saint Honore is the same workshop that housed Napolean Bonaparte’s silversmith. C’est magnifique!
